A highly absorbent and atraumatic, nonadhesive, sterile polyurethane foam dressing is comprised of a top sheet of polyurethane and a contoured layer of soft silicone gel in contact with the wound.
The dressing consists of a breathable polyurethane film, impermeable to liquids and bacteria but permeable to gases and water vapor, with relevant breathability and barrier function to external contamination, a PU foam layer with high absorbent capacity for medium to high exudate production. In contrast, the wound contact layer is made of soft silicone gel to prevent adhesion to the wound and allow painless and trauma-free removal and transfer of exudates to the absorbent foam layer.
Combining the foam and polyurethane outer film with the inner silicone layer makes Euroderm foam silicone excellent at handling fluids, maintaining the ideal moist environment for healing.
Euroderm silicone foam conforms perfectly to the wound bed and different anatomical locations of the body, providing excellent patient comfort. The edges of the dressing do not roll up, and the product has good conformability and softness. In addition, the thickness of the foam creates a cushion effect that reduces pressure on the lesion and counteracts any friction forces.
Benefits:
- Thanks to its unique mixed-size cell structure, the absorbent layer ensures controlled absorption of exudate. Once absorbed, the exudate is retained and evenly distributed within the foam even under pressure, thus preventing the exudate from accumulating and moving to the surrounding fabric without deforming. Polyurethane foam also performs a cushioning effect.
- The hypoallergenic polyurethane outer film, due to its high breathability, allows the evaporation of absorbed exudates by increasing the foam's fluid handling capacity in general and prevents maceration of the perilesional area. The film's impermeability prevents water from penetrating inside, allowing the dressing to be wet once applied.
- The silicone gel film in contact with the wound prevents adhesion of the foam to the wound, allows removal without causing pain or trauma, and allows transfer of exudate from the wound to the foam preventing skin maceration.
Indications:
- To be used for the prevention of stage I to IV pressure ulcers and venous ulcers in the lower extremities, vascular injuries, 1st and 2nd degree burns, skin sampling sites, decubitus injuries, and noninfected wounds with medium to high exudate production undergoing granulation or re-epithelialization. Euroderm Foam can be applied using a secondary fixation dressing (tape patch, polyurethane film – Euroderm or Euroderm Roll – or cohesive bandage). In the presence of necrotic tissue or fibrinous lesions, use in combination with "Hydromed Gel" is recommended.
